The Jedi and the Wookiees had been prievously captured by Trandoshan hunters in the lead-up to Life Day, a Wookiee festivity. Around 41 BBY, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who was on the planet Kashyyyk with his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi to study the customs of the Wookiee, and other Wookiees were captured by the Trandoshans hunters before the Wookiee festivity
