It is the Schliemann Defense (also known as the Schliemann Gambit), which happens after the following moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 f5. The move 3…f5 is amazing for two reasons. First, it is the most aggressive response to the Ruy Lopez. Classical variations are very positional, intricate, and it requires a lot of time and effort to study those theories. Secondly, it is similar to the Rousseau Gambit, where Black plays 3…f5 against the Italian Game, which is also my favourite gambit for Black. Although at first this move may seem very risky and violating the classical opening principles, 3…f5 is not as bad as it looks. It’s extremely tricky and very difficult for White to figure out the best moves. In the most-played line, Black gets a winning position straight from the opening.
